Game and Fish Commission Overview

The Arizona Game and Fish Commission adopted 2002 regulations for fish, reptiles, amphibians, crustaceans and mollusks and addressed a wide variety of other agenda items during its Oct. 19 and 20 meeting in Phoenix.

The commission took the following actions:

· Adopted 2002 Fishing Regulations.

· Adopted 2002 Reptile Regulations.

· Adopted 2002 Raptor Regulations.

· Adopted 2002 Crustacean and Mollusk Regulations.

· Directed the Game and Fish Department to postpone further development of the Interagency Management Plan for Conservation of Black-tailed Prairie Dogs in Arizona and to continue the 12-step process to allow the commission to consider reintroduction. The department was directed to continue its participation in the multi-state Black-tailed Prairie Dog Conservation Team that is comprised of 10 other states that are developing black-tail prairie dog management plans in their respective states.

· Received an update on the current issues involving the Anderson Mesa antelope herd.

· Renewed a right-of-way with the Arizona State Land Department for hunter and recreational access at Redfield Canyon in Pima County.

· Allocated special big game license tags to various sportsmen’s groups for raising money for each of the species in question.

· Approved a notice of rulemaking for R12-4-119, R12-4-304, R12-4-307 and R12-4-309;

· Approved amending the open area of Hunt 4027 (Gould’s turkey) from Hunt Unit 35A to include Fort Huachuca.

· Added Sahuarita Lake in the Town of Sahuarita in Pima County to the Urban Fishing Program.
