Many Waters Get Extra Trout:
Winter Trout Stocking Soon
Rainbow trout fishing enthusiasts are being given bonus opportunities to catch trout this fall season – extra stockings were made at a wide variety of lakes throughout the state.
Plus, the Arizona Game and Fish Department’s winter trout stocking program is about to kick into high gear during the next several weeks. In addition, Tempe Town Lake will be stocked with trout Nov. 13, adding yet another water.
The following lakes have received bonus trout stockings the past couple of weeks: Woods Canyon, Willow Springs, Black Canyon, Big Lake, Becker, East Clear Creek, Concho, Rainbow and Show Low.
But mark your calendars for the week of Nov. 12 when Canyon Lake, Roper Lake, Cluff Pond, Dankworth Pond, and Deadhorse Lake will be stocked. Saguaro Lake will be stocked the week of Nov. 19. Bass anglers will want to note the stockings at Saguaro and Canyon – anglers using trout-like lures following the stockings have caught HUGE bass in past years.
Another popular winter trout fishery, the Lower Salt River, will be stocked with trout every two weeks starting the week of Nov. 5. Also during the week of Nov. 5, the Verde River between Cottonwood and Camp Verde, along with Kearny Lake, Pena Blanca and Patagonia lakes will be stocked.
The winter trout stockings for Oak Creek, Lynx, Fain, Mingus, and Parker Canyon all started in October. "Those heading to the high country for some trout might also want to take their rimfire rifle along – tree squirrel season is open until Nov. 25," advised Information Branch Chief Joe Janisch.
Rainbow trout will also be stocked in the greater Phoenix area urban lakes on Nov. 19 and in Tucson lakes Nov. 14. Green Valley Lake in Payson, which is part of the urban program, was stocked with trout last month and will be stocked again this week.
